LO2: Summary Documents.

Today in lesson i will be writing about what will be in the content of the '90's years' as a segment of the show.

90's years.
This is the Summary Document I did for 90's Years.

Name. The name of the show is called  'The 90's years' which is a pun as it relates to the very famous show in the 90's called the Golden Years. This segment of the show will be very laid back and relaxed connoting that it is informal. This part of the show will entertain to the target audience, the target audience of the show are to people from the 90's and have a passion for the music. The segment will be played at night which will get people into a party mood, so it is also targeted to people who enjoy parties/raves hence most 90's kids.

Purpose.
90's years will both inform and educate the audience, as this segment of the show will inform the audience facts of different years in the 90's as well as entertaining them with 90's quizzes and feel good 90's tunes.

Content.
As the show is informal the presenters will be them selves to make the audience want to listen more and will find it more entertaining. 90's years will involve funky jingles that connote the 90's with the happy poppy sounds, this will entertain the listeners as well as inform them as it will inform which section of the show we are at, and which station it is to listeners which have only just tuned in. The interviews in the show will be very short, they will be phone in interviews so we can talk to the audience who love the 90's and which years of the 90's they most enjoyed and why. Each time this segment of the show comes on we choose at random a different year from the 90's and play music from the chosen year. All our music which we have used is copyrighted, and we have to use PRS/Ofcom/ASA/Bcap. The adverts we use will have ASA and Bcap and will be relevant to our genre in order for it to appeal to our audience, for example it could be an advert that sells something which would appeal to the audience profile.

Target Audience.
The target audience for this segment are people who are interested in this era and genre of music. The age of my target audience are young adults who are either at university or a working class. Stereotypically the gender that the show is targeted at are female due to the amount of fan girling over 90's boy bands.

Audience Profile.

Hey my names Sarah and i am 20 years old studying music at university in Sheffield. Every friday night me and my flat mates always go to Pop World to have a drink and a dance to the 90's pop they play! The 90's was such a huge part of my childhood, i'd always listen to 90's pop and funk with my dad in the car and sing at the top of my voice! My favourite TV show of all time is Saved By The Bell and Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, i have the full box set of each, i love having a chill day on my own and just watching them all! I spend a lot of my time shopping online and going to vintage shops to find great bargains, my favourite things to wear are colourful bomber jackets and jelly shoes, i like to look bright and stand out from the crowd!

In today's lesson I will be completing a summary document for two potential ideas for my pitch.  This fulfills LO2.

90s-00s Cheese Show

The name of our show will be 'Pure Cheddar'. It connotes the genre that the show will promote.  The word 'pure' connoting classics and the word 'cheddar' denoting cheese which some people suggest that the music from this era is. Our audio media product will be a radio talk show which plays music, has audience contribution, has relevant dialogue, and music true to the genre which will be 90s-00s pop.  The genre of the show appeals to the audience because it allows them to reminisce about their childhood/a time of their life and be reminded with memories and songs from that decade.

The purpose of the show is to entertain.  All of the song choices will be upbeat, catchy and remind the audience of the good old 90s-00s music from groups such as The Spice Girls, TLC, Boyzone and Take That.   And of course, the legend that is Rick Astley.  Depending on the time the show is aired, the show may need to inform the listeners.  For example, if this was a breakfast show, it would need to inform the audience about the current news, weather forecast and regular time updates whereas if it was played in the evening, it would just entertain the audience and give them a fun, easy listen.

For the content of the show, we will have 3 presenters which will all have different memories from the time the music came out.  The presenters will be informal and relaxed, which will hopefully connect well with the audience. The topics of discussion will include news from the period,  gossip, the chart ratings and what fashion was in.   We will use cheesy jingles which will include rhythms and sound effects such as 'wow' and a light, dance-like bassline as that what is mostly included in 90s-00s pop.  Our programme will be aired from 9pm and 12am every Thursday night which is student night therefore the show will entertain them before they get ready to go out and hit the town. The show will encourage audience contribution by having phone-ins from the audience with song requests, telling us about their most fond memory from the era and what they were doing when the song was released.   The music played will be mostly of the same genre, such as Pop, Britpop and Dance. We will get copyright by applying for a PRS licence which will enable us to play the songs for public consumption.  We will also abide by the Ofcom regulations which are the regulatory board for broadcasting, approved by the government. Their regulations state that broadcasting material must not contain harmful or offensive content, which our show will not.  When using adverts, we will consider the ASA and Bcap and respect the advertising code.  The adverts that are used will be relevant to the genre of the show.  Most things from the 90s and 00s are rapidly coming back into fashion, this means that we will be able to advertise brands such as Tamagotchi, Juju and The Ministry of Sound.

Our target audience for the show will be people who have fond memories of the 90s and who grew up in that era, typically women who were teenagers at the time.  This means they will be aged around 16-30.  Although this is our specific target audience, anyone is able to listen to the show and enjoy the music, just they may not be as aware of the songs.   Our main competitor will be Absolute Radio 90s as they are really the only major other radio station that shares our genre of music. Looking at Absolute Radio 90s RAJAR figures, it has a population of 53,302,000 people but only has a reach of 665,000, meaning that only 1% of its population listen to the station. Absolute Radio 90s has a male listenership of 56% and a female listenership of 44% with an age range of 25-44. 60% of these are ABC1 listeners. This means that our show will be targeting a different age range and demographic to that of our competitor.  The main genre The USP of our radio talk show is that it is the only show with both eras as Absolute has its own station per decade with no specific genre just all music from the time period.   Our aim as a radio talk show is to have a higher listenership and reach and we will do this by promoting the show on social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter and also have an app which will enable people to listen to the station when on the go.   We will also team up with iTunes so that when a song is played, it creates a list with a link to that song's iTunes page where then the audience can purchase the song for further listening.

Here is the audience moodboard that I created which will reflect my desired target audience.

It denotes female women who were born in the 80s, therefore growing up with 90s and 00s pop music.  Our average audience member would have grew up watching 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' and ate Poptarts.  Also, Monkey Boots were a big think in the 80s-90s and most teenagers owned a pair.   The 90s was the up-rise of the electrical company Panasonic and most families owned a radio/cassette player in that time.  Although this moodboard represents women (due to the fact that around this time was the uproar of the boy bands) males are also more than welcome to listen to the radio talk show along with people of other ages such as the older generation or children who were born in the late 90s to early 00s.  The radio talk show will not contain any explicit content therefore it will hopefully be entertaining for every audience member.
