Additional Information

(Include schedule/ structure) The show will start at 9 o'clock at night and finish at 20 past 9, so the show will be exactly 20 minutes.

Content of show (items, features and articles): The show will begin with talking and introducing  the audience to the show, and then a year of the 90's will be chosen at random and then a well known song from that year will be played.
for example...

year chosen: 1998 song chosen: Britney Spears Hit Me Baby One More Time.

year chosen: 1991 song chosen: Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit

year chosen: 1994 song chosen: Baby D Let Me Be Your Fantasy

Year chosen: 1993 song chosen: Another Night Real McCoy

after doing that for about 4 songs the adverts would begin, and once the adverts are finished there would be a 90's quiz, part of a song will be played and we will have a phone in interview with someone from the audience and they have to guess the date of the song, and if it's right they will win various different prizes on each show.

Examples of questions and issues to be raised for interviews:

* Whats your favourite 90's band or artist?

*What is your favourite 90's song by them?

*Why do you like this song?

Styles of music to be used: Pop/ Funk / RnB

Will your program use advertising to make a profit   YES    NO    MAYBE

Our program will feature adverts such as O2 academy Sheffield. I chose this to advertise because it advertises music and DJ's play there which is relevant to the genre of music which plays.

Mercury taxi's would also be an advertiser, this is because the listeners will hear about the taxi's before they go on their night out on a friday and saturday night so they can prepare their lift back from town.

The Shop Cow will also be an advertiser because it sells vintage stuff, hence stuff from the 90's which is relevant to the show, this type of clothing will appeal to my target audience.

Additional Details:
Target Audience
The age of my target audience is from age 16-26 because these are the people who were kids in the 90's and will remember the era well. There isn't a specific gender that this is targeted at, it should appeal to both genders.  Heart Fm play in the day time, Heart is similar to my radio show, but mine plays at 9 o'clock at night when heart isn't on, so this is where i fit in the market. I think the time i start my radio show will appeal to my audience because it will prepare them for a night out on friday and saturday night, It is aimed at ABC1 and C2/D because half of the audience will be in education and the other half work full time. Our show would be hammocked in-between the show that plays chart music before our show and the chart remixes which would play late after my show. Since Heart fm is very similar to my show i would see it as a competitor, but it isn't too bad since the times of the radio show don't clash.

Section 1

Name or title of program: Get Your Funk On

Length of show (maximum 60 minutes):  20 minutes
Genre or type of program: Funk/soul Music

Brief description / synopsis: A one hour show playing old funk/dance/soul music from the 90s to the audience hyped up and ready for the weekend. This show would be played at parties of all ages or getting ready to go out or even when you fancy a dance when making a cuppa.  It will be played from 9pm to 10pm on a Friday and Saturday night, this time to line up with what the target audience are doing, for example half 9:30 on I Friday night the younger audience would be either at a party or getting ready to go to a party or getting ready to go out. But the time and genre will also cover another section of listeners for example if adults were having friends round with a party or get together then the old music that was played when they went clubbing would be on the radio to have a dance or just look back on memories.  On top of the music that we are having on the show we will also do remixes of 90s funk and soul to reach the further audience such as the people that don’t like this genre but do like club music.

Production method: c Live c Recorded g Both

Section 2

Target audience
Time of day:08:00-11:00
Day(s) of the week: Friday and Saturday
Intended age of audience: from 16 to 50
Other target details: people that are into a similar genre

Section 3

Show Presenters/Hosts
# Of Hosts: 3 hosts
Name/Descriptions of hosts: Jake McLean, Annabel Slater, Molly Keyworth – all the presenters of the show will be informal and chatty with each other to have a local and relaxed theme to the conversation. This will make the listeners relax and relate to the presenters.

Delivery style: Informal and local presenters, the presenters will seem informal because our show is played just before people go out on Friday and Saturday night, so a friendly and happy delivery style is important because the audience would not be happy or even be there, if the style of delivery was a lot calmer and formal. We are trying to get the listeners to look forward to going out, not to bore them. The presenters will also have a comedic theme to there delivery to the audience, this is because we want people to by happy and hyped up to go out, for example is someone was 50/50 about going out the comedic theme to the show would cheer them up and then get them excited with music.

£30 a month for 4 shows a month.

Location: Sheffield Live and UTC

Production time (recording and editing):

The first thing that we would look into is the planning of the show, looking at the content and style, we would need a script and running order to see how it would flow as well as experience with the software and equipment we are using, which would take up to a week. we would also need sometime to practise the script and running of the show before hand which could take up to one or two days. The interviews and phone ins will be pre recorded and edited before going on the show to make sure there is no offensive illegal issues featured to stay with in Ofcom regulations.

Additional information

(Include schedule / structure)

Content of show (items, features and articles): The Content of the show will contain different interviews, news and features such as interviews with the audience that are listening to the show, the interview will range from young listeners listening to the remixes to the older audience that will listen to the old original songs from the 90s. The show will also contain a news part, which will look into the artists of the songs such as the 90s artists that are still going and are still making music or the artists that are making a come back from the 90s into the modern music and also the DJs that do the remixes of the original songs as well as the new upcoming DJs that people should have a listen to.

Examples of questions and issues to be raised for interviews:

a couple of interviews questions that I will prepare and ask the people that will phone in is:

  • What is your favourite 90s song?
  • What memory do you link with this song?
  • What is your favourite 90s artist?
The interviews may also contain new DJs that have a interest in the 90s music and want a chance in getting out there with their songs some questions that we would ask these people are:

  • What made you want to do this
  • Which is your favourite mix
  • which is your favourite track that you have made

Styles of music to be used: The style of the music that will be featured on the show is 90s funk and soul music, but also modern remixes of the old 90s originals some examples of songs that we would play are

  • Michael Jackson - Rock With You
  • Nightcrawler's - Push the feeling (DJ S.K.T Remix 2013)
  • Tom Browne - Jamaican Funk

Will your program use advertising to make a profit?   c Yes  c No  c Maybe

Yes, Our program will feature adverts that will relate to the radio show, the first one of our adverts will be for O2 Academy Sheffield. This is because the DJ that we will feature on the show and songs that feature on the show will be heard and seen at the O2 Academy Sheffield which will benefit them and us.

The Second of the Adverts are is an advert for mercury taxis which again link in with our show because the show is played just before people will go out or at a party and people that will listen to this show will be wanting a taxi to go to town or wanting one ready to leave town or go to a party or leave one.

Our third Advert is for the independent record shop "Record Junkee" which is located in Sheffield. Again this links well with the show because it features records from 90s classics that will be played on the show, as well as the records linking with the DJs Mixing.

Additional Details:

Target Audience: I think that my product is different from the others out there because other radio shows consist of old 90s or 80s original tunes OR a DJ remix set but mine includes both therefore has a much wider target audience because it has the younger audience that likes the remixes and the older that likes the originals but as well as that it introduces the younger audiences to the original songs that the remixes came from as well as showing the remixes to the older audience. The age range for my target audience would be from 14 to 40/50 because the people that was listening to the 90s original when they were out at parties are now the older target audience and the younger target audience are the ones going out now listing to the remixes. The gender of the audience will be mixed, i don't think that any of the songs and content will be favoured more by a particular gender, I think it is for all ears to listen to. In the ABC1s categorising my audience would be C2/D because half of the audience will be teenagers that will be in education and not in full time work and the other half of my audience will be the older adults that go out to town or parties on the weekends and prefer lots of fun. I provide the gap in the market because other radio shows provide one of the other, but I provide both types of music such as 90s originals and the remixes.

Gap in the market: The Unique selling point for my radio show is that it features original music for the older audience to listen to as well as the remixes of the popular original tracks for the younger listeners.

Future Developments: Future developments for this show would be to work on a music TV channel that could feature new music videos made for the new up and coming DJs we would feature on the show, Also host events at local venues for our artists featured on the show.

This is the Treatment Molly did for Pure Cheddar.

Radio Programming Proposal
Pure Cheddar
These are not the final terms of the agreement between you and Sheffield Live!.  ALL aspects are negotiable.  Both parties will agree upon the final terms.  If interested, Molly Keyworth will contact you to schedule a formal meeting.

Section 1
Name or title of program: The name of our show will be 'Pure Cheddar'. It connotes the genre that the show will promote.  The word 'pure' connoting classics and the word 'cheddar' denoting cheese, which some people suggest that the music from this era is. Our audio media product will be a radio talk show, which plays music, has audience contribution, has relevant dialogue, and music true to the genre, which will be 90s-00s pop.
Length of show (maximum 60 minutes):
Our show will last for 60 minutes and will be 9pm-10pm on a Thursday night as people are getting ready to go out and pre-drinking.  Thursdays are known for cheap drinks and entry into clubs therefore this sense of cheapness also reflects the music – fun, affordable and true anthems!
Genre or type of program:
As previously stated, the genre of the show will be 90s-00s  ‘cheesy music’. The purpose of the show will be to entertain. This is because this era was known for the electric, pop and dance scene.  Our aim is to go through all of the songs of the years and pick out the best in order to get people in the mood to go out and have a good weekend. As the main timescale of our genre is 15 years, we could make 15 weeks worth of shows, each one with a different theme, for example; the first show could be rise of the bassline and breakdowns which would consist songs such as Darude – Sandstorm (2000) and another could be the power of the girl groups, including bands such as he Spice Girls (1994-2000).
Brief description / synopsis:
For the content of the show, we will have 3 presenters which will all have different memories from the time the music came out.  The presenters will be informal and relaxed, which will connect well with the audience because they will be getting ready to go out. The topics of discussion will include news from the period, gossip, the chart ratings and what fashion was in.   We will use cheesy jingles which will include rhythms and sound effects such as 'wow' and a light, dance-like bassline as that what is mostly included in 90s-00s pop.
Production method:
 Live?  Recorded?  Both?
Section 2
Target audience
Time of day: 21:00pm-22:00pm
Day(s) of the week: Thursday
Intended age of audience: 18-30
Other target details: Female majority as this was the uprising of the boy band era, which attracted a lot of female fans.
Section 3
Show Presenters/Hosts
# of Hosts: 3
Name/Description:
Molly Keyworth - Presenter/Producer
Annabel Slater – Presenter/Researcher
Jake Mclean - Presenter/Music Tech
Delivery style:
The delivery style of the show will be informal, relaxed and upbeat therefore getting our audience in a good mood before they go out to hit the town.  We will encourage audience contribution by having a number that the audience can ring and text in to request a song.   In order to do this we must ensure we have a wide range of audio.

Total = £3864.35

Our start up costs will be so expensive because everything will be bought brand new.  Although it will be expensive initially, we will recoup our costs eventually via selling advertising space.

Out of the above resources, a range will already have been sourced by the radio station and/or subsidised.  These existing resources are marked with an asterisk (*)

Therefore the estimated cost for new equipment will cost around £1928.34

Audio Advertising Costs:
http://www.radioadvertising.co.uk/costs

To give a very rough perspective, a week-long campaign that uses a 30 second ad (minus production costs) could cost anything from:
  • £500 on a local station
  • £2,500 on a regional station
  • Upwards from £10,000 on a national station

As Sheffield Live! are only a local station, we would charge £500 for a week-long campaign for a 30 second advert.  We expect advertisers to make their own adverts and give them to us to broadcast.

Pure Cheddar would also pay Sheffield Live! a monthly rental fee of £30 to use their facilities and equipment.  Also this will cover their licence to broadcast.
Our advertisers will be Reflex Bar,  Pop World nightclub and Drink Awareness by South Yorkshire Police.
Location:  Our radio show will be located at Sheffield Live! HQ but occasionally we will hold nights where we will broadcast from places such as Reflex bar in Sheffield.
Production time (recording and editing):

Additional information
This is the current schedule for Sheffield Live!
Content of show (items, features and articles):
The show will begin with a jingle, which will introduce the show to the audience and let them know what they're listening to.  The jingle will be upbeat and get the audience involved in the programme.   The presenters will then give a brief overview of what is coming up on this weeks show along with ways you can get involved.  These will include texting the show, ringing up and tweeting to request songs, enter competitions and just generally get involved.  The first song will be played within 5 minutes of the show starting and will be a 90s dance song such as Playing With Knives - Bizzare Inc which is energetic and well known so therefore will hopefully engage the audience.
As the show will be broadcasted 9pm-10pm on a Thursday night, the same of the first show will be "Prinking with Pure Cheddar" This means the show is designed to be listened to whilst people are getting ready and pre-drinking to go out.   Currently in Sheffield there are 2 nightclubs and bars that currently play our genre of music - Pop World and Reflex Bar.   We will work closely with these bars to promote their nights as well as giving away offers and a chance for the audience to win free entry. In terms of OFCOM, the show will ensure that we will promote the drink awareness campaign and know your limits, as well as the local South Yorkshire Police drinking awareness campaign.
Examples of questions and issues to be raised for interviews:
We will be asking frequent questions to the audience to encourage them to ring up, text or tweet in to answer.  Some of the questions asked will include:
  • What does this song remind you of?
  • What were you doing when this song was released?
  • What songs do you want to hear?
Styles of music to be used:
Below are examples of the genre of music that will be played along with an example of some songs..
  • 90s pop -  Britney Spears - Hit me baby one more time
  • 90s britpop - Pulp - Year 2000
  • 90s dance - Strike - U Sure Do
  • 00s pop - S Club 7 - Reach
  • 00s dance - Darude - Sandstorm
Will your program use advertising to make a profit?   Yes?  No?  Maybe?
Additional Details:

Target Audience:

Our target audience for the show will be people who have fond memories of the 90s and who grew up in that era, typically women who were teenagers at the time.  This means they will be aged around 16-30.  Although this is our specific target audience, anyone is able to listen to the show and enjoy the music, just they may not be as aware of the songs.
Our main competitor will be Absolute Radio 90s as they are really the only major other radio station that shares our genre of music. Looking at Absolute Radio 90s RAJAR figures, it has a population of 53,302,000 people but only has a reach of 665,000, meaning that only 1% of its population listen to the station. Absolute Radio 90s has a male listenership of 56% and a female listenership of 44% with an age range of 25-44. 60% of these are ABC1 listeners. This means that our show will be targeting a different age range and demographic to that of our competitor.
As our show will be broadcasted on Sheffield Live! which is a community radio station, it usually has a listenership of less than 50,000.  Survey results show that the station has a weekly audience reach of 11% which is equivalent to around 32,000 listeners every week.  We understand that our show will have a lower listenership than our competitors as they are commercial and we are community.  Our music is for the people whereas theirs is for a profit.
We hope to hammock our show inbetween Siteen Daqiqa be Alarabi which is on, on a Thursday evening 8pm-9pm as our show would start at 9pm until 10pm and Des Paradeswhich is currently broadcasted on a Thursday evening 9pm until 11pm, which covers the time that we wish to broadcast.  We will try and come up with a compromise to ensure both shows still get aired but just share the broadcast space.

The USP of our radio show Pure Cheddar, is that it is the only show with both eras as Absolute has its own station per decade with no specific genre just all music from the time period.   Our aim as a radio talk show is to have a higher listenership and reach and we will do this by promoting the show on social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter and also have an app which will enable people to listen to the station when on the go.   We will also team up with iTunes so that when a song is played, it creates a list with a link to that song's iTunes page where then the audience can purchase the song for further listening.
Profits/Costs:
As worked out above, our start up cost will estimate to be around  £1928.34 which we will fundraise via a loan however we will make a profit from selling advertising space which we will charge £500 for a week long campaign.  We will use the profits to pay off our loan and the rest will be used to invest in new equipment.  As we are a community programme, we will have to pay Sheffield Live! a rental fee of £30 per week.
